Geeky Stereotypes - Who are you?

It is nice to hear that I've played some of the same games as you guys out there, makes me feel more comfortable in my choices ;) Lately I have been doing some researches about geek stereotypes, and apparently it exists.

Not everyone can fit underneath this picture and its types in my opinion, but I still think it is a bit funny, cause personally I have met a few people from my online games IRL, and it is so much fun to figure out if you look like a geek or not. I have seen lots of pictures of people I play games with, and it is always a bit fun to check each other out and maybe go like: "Omg I would never have thought you looked like that?", might it be in a good or bad way ;) But mostly I am surprised in the positive way, lots of the geeks out there aren't that bad looking as we might think!

Cause when you think of a geek these words automatically pops into your mind: Fat, sofa sitting, coke, pizza, glasses, greasy hair, bad looking and not very stylish.
But that image surely have changed in a very good way :) Personally I have only seen one person in the last 3 years which filled in all those things and more to ! But lets not point any fingers, it could have been me! And besides, who doesnt like to be a coke, pizza and sofa sitting monster once in a while ;) I do at least!

But anyway back to the Stereotypes; Which one would you be? One from the picture or a totally different one?

  1. I'm not included in those pictures.

I'm the guy at work that shows up when there's a problem with one of the machines always looking like he needs a decent nights sleep, which is usually the case, and then heads back to my cube once I've worked my magic on the busted machines in question. So I think my colleagues, after being reminded of who I am and assured that I do work full time in the office, would consider me to be your typical quiet computer obsessed gamer geek :p

More to the point I think the definition and general sterotype of the word geek has shifted somewhat in the last 5 or so years, maybe due to the exposure to games that older people (30's+) have had with things like the Wii and Facebook browser games. If you went back 10 years being labelled a geek had the same negative implications that being labelled a nerd had, now things are different. Being a geek isn't quite so unusual anymore.

  2. Let's see, I don't think I can find myself in one of those pictures. I wouldn't say I am a stereotype at all, but other people may judge differently obviously. I would say I am the kind of guy that doesn't care what others may think. Life is too bloody short, I am trying to live life without regrets. That's why I stick with my own principles even if that clashes with any morals. For example I don't like listening to things that most people think is self-evident. At first people always seem to misunderstand me, but when they get to know me they'll realise that i'm actually quite easy to deal with, resulting that I can get along with everyone. I alway try to keep a neutral position, though sometimes I get a bit carried away.
I guess being me is a stereotype on it's own.

  15. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I
find this topic to be really something that
I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and
extremely broad for me. I'm looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
